Oct-11-1899. I have found out where an Eagle and a Hawks Nest are; also that the bordor may nest in canon near big peak back of here as they are generally to be seen there. While out at the teachers institute I saw a great nombuer of small birds at Pacific Grove that I took to be Pygmy Nuthatches. Some attention paid to seabirds but no species could be distinguished Oct-19 I was very much interested in a little Anna's Hummer. It was sitting upon a limb and allowed me to approach within about 4 feet and to walk about a little so as to see its brilliant plumage in different lights. I don't believe I fully realized until then the full beauty of our little neighbor. The color changing from scarlet to a beautiful golden. The top of the head also would change. Soon it flew away and went on a little ways and was much surprised
