24 Rockland-Montereytes., Cal. 1897. Near Gorda T.O. - (Palo Colorado Canada) Aug.16. Am. Water Ousels are frequently seen, also Russet-backed Thrusbes. A large, dark-colored Hawk was seen near Gorda upon a large rock near the sea. It might have belonged to the "falcon group". Aug.31. Some time ago Mr. Plashett of Gorda told me that the 73 and-tabled Pigeons are found here the year through and that they breed. Tonight I became acquainted with the Am. Dipper at close range. One was on a rock in the creek just back of our house and it allowed me to approach quite closely to it. It kept on with its singing. This consisted of two strains one seemingly an alarm note and the other a song. This latter was not unlike that of a canary bird but was more subdued.
