Feb. 29, '96. Saw a dozen or so old nests
in a barn that were either Black
Phoebe's or Barn Swallows. Some
were occupied by the House Finch
with the interruption of nesting I
think.
At the peak of the rafter roof
two baling ropes were tied - one
from each rafter and each a
foot or so in length, thus forming
a kind of a swing. At the
junction of these two ropes and on
the knot which tied them together
was placed a nest of the Swallow
or Phoebe, I could not tell which - probably the former. This nest was
occupied by a House Finch I think.
The Western Savanna Sparrow is
occasionally seen in the vicinity
of the barn in search of food and
I think one bird which I have
seen comes regularly every evening
for his food. I have heard their
