Drove through the deep slough from San Leandro Bay to the south shore of Bay Farm Island this afternoon. Birds were common in San Leandro Bay; a good many were seen in the marshes; while off the south shore of Bay Farm Island there were comparatively few birds, a number of ducks being seen in the distance on the water offshore. One loon flew by while driving on the south shore of Bay Farm Island. Terns. A few small ones. Grets. One small one. Gulls. Several large ones. Sandpipers. A flock of about twenty flew by while we were in San Leandro Bay. Ardea herodias. One or two. Ducks. Common. While coming through the south end of the slough three or four flocks passed over southbound. Aristonetta valisineria, several. Scaup Ducks, several. Clangula clangula, common, mottledrakes. Oedemia perspicillata, two or three. Oedemia deglandi; ♂ one or two. Phalacrocorax auritus. Common. Two or three large flocks. Not all of the individuals are blacks, some being having large light-colored patches on breast.
