6. February 21, 1910. San Leandro Bay and around Bay Farm Island, Alameda Co., California. south Conditions: Overcast; moderate temperature; light westerly winds. Gretes. I saw several small gretes. I shot one Dytes auritus in San Leandro Bay. Loons. Two or three. Terns. Three or four small terns. Larus philadelphia. Two or three in mixed flock of gulls circling over wounded birds. Larus canus. Shot one. Saw others. Larus glaucescens. Shot one immature one. Saw others. Larus argentatus. Shot two adults. Larus californicus. Saw two or three. Among the numerous large gulls seen, I saw some that looked to be Larus delawarensis. In several places we saw large flocks of gulls circling high in the air just as they are often seen off the San Francisco waterfront towards evening. All of the shore birds were seen in San Leandro Bay and the marshes. In the former place they were numerous on the mud flats at low tide. All were wary. Squatarola hebetica. Fairly common. & Calling a lot. Macrochamphus griseus. Several flocks probably of this species. Pelidna alpina. Two or three flocks of large sand- pipers which I took to be this species. Sandpipers. Several flocks of small sandpipers, probably Limonites minutilla or perhaps Eeunetes pusillus. Aldrea herodias. Several.
