this evening there was a large flock of Larus
californicus and Larus glauciscens on the water.
I saw two or three Phalacrocorax auritus south-
bound.
While the ferry boat was in the slip on
the San Francisco side this evening gulls
were very common. Two or three Larus
glauciscens alighted on the forward deck.
Along with it was a Larus glaucus. It was
very nearly pure white, the only ex-
ception being some brown spots on
the wings and back. I am very certain
of its identity. After it left the deck
I saw it once again as it flew out
from behind an incoming steamer.

Both this morning and evening quite
a few ducks (Scamps and Scoters) were seen along
the mole.
On the Bay this evening Larus glaucus
and Larus Californicus were common,
several of the former sitting on the lower
deck of the steamer while in the slip on the
San Francisco side. I saw a Phalacrocorax
auritus going south and several seven
Scamp ducks going north.
