singly and in flocks on the water. Not as bold as the Scoup Ducks. Odemia deglandi. Occasional on water te- side mole. Ardea herodias. Yesterday morning I saw two flying about erratically over the marsh west of First Street, the second bird apparently pursuing the first. Passer domesticus. Common all over as usual. Zonotrichia leucophrys. Saw a large flock feeding in back yard Sunday. Saw two or three in tree with flock of Passer domesticus this evening. Dendroica auduboni. Occasional birds about place in pear trees. Mar. 5, 1908. Alameda to and from San Francisco, Cal. Conditions: - cool; rainy. Several flocks of ducks (apparently mostly Scoup Ducks and Aristonetta valisneria) were seen on the water south of the mole and seawall. Three clangula clangula flew up as the train swung around the curve between Fifth St. and West Alameda Stations this morning. On the sand, about 30 yards from- the track there three ducks standing asleep with heads thrown over the back shoulder and down under the wing. This evening it is also there were considerable numbers of gulls and ducks on the sand near.
