Mar. 1, 1908.
Alameda, bal.
I saw one or two gulls flying over the town
and an adult Larus californicus flying close to
the south end of Willow Street.
Mar. 4, 1908.
Alameda to and from San Francisco, bal.
During the past three days the weather has been
very changeable, raining at times, at other times
clear. The temperature has been perhaps a little
cool. The following species have been noted, al-
though I have not been on the lookout particular-
ly:-
Lobolymbus septentrionalis. One or two on water
near mole.
Aechmophorus occidentalis. One or two a
couple of mornings, on the water.
Larus californicus. Common on sand and mud
flats near roundhouse at low tide. Noted also on
bay.
Larus glaucescens. Immature birds still fol-
lowing ferry steamers. Considerable numbers on
sheds and piles.
Scarf Ducks. Common. Along south shore and
mole; in flocks and singly; males commonest;
and tamest, being close up to the track without
showing alarm.
Aristonetta valinaria. Both sexes quite common
