San Francisco, bal.
Conditions: - 5:00 P.M.; NE wind; raining; cold.
Larus glaucescens was very common
on the piles and about the ferry slips; several
adult and immature Larus californicus
were seen. One of this last species and six
of the former were on the lower deck
this evening. The immature Larus glau-
ces cens on the piles were squabbling and
crowing as usual; one had an almost
white head and neck, while the rest of the
body was mottled brown.

Alameda to and from San Francisco, bal.
Conditions: - Middle of day; high tide; SE wind; more
or less rainy.
Ducks. A few noticed along seawall and note
on the way over to San Francisco, although the
sea was very rough. On the return trip a
flock of thirty or forty came flying from the
westward, alighting south of the mole.
Larus philadelphia. One hovering close over
the water south of Goat Island in the morning.
Larus glaucescens. Abundant on the San
Francisco side. On the trip to the city only an
occasional gull was seen until off Goat Island.
Larus californicus. A few as usual.
Larus canus or Larus brachyrynchus. Several on S.F. side.
