the bay. I saw two flying southward over the city
in the down-town district, also one going
northward.
Among a flock of gulls on the water
off the city I saw an adult Larus occidentalis
Jan. 24, 1908.
Alameda to San Francisco, bal.
Conditions: - bold; southerly wind; overcast.
Gulls were following the steamer the same as
usual. In the evening about 5:45 a few
were seen in front of the S.F. ferry slips, but more
on the piles, it was then almost dark.
During the past two or three mornings I
have seen about half a dozen gulls flying over
San Francisco both east and west. One or two
have also been seen flying also over Alameda.
Along the mole this morning I saw
two or three large flocks of ducks on the
water at a distance and also one or two
individuals. A fine adult male Blangula clang-
ula was seen close in, diving as the train passed.
One large flock was close up to a blind, which
of course was unoccupied.
