chen hyperboreus.
February 22, 1909.
I noticed several of the gray
back feathers
of the young Snow Goose on the ground.
It is getting more white fresh feathers in
its back. I can see no appreciably
change in the color of the bill and feet
since last spoken of.
February 24, 1909.
I received another immature Snow Goose
today. It seemed farther along toward the
adult plumage than the bird mentioned above. It
is a very small bird. Its bill is nearly
as bright as that of an adult, although a little
duller about the base. The feet, however, are
not so brightly colored.
March 13, 1909.
Of the two immature Snow Geese the one
with the pink bill has white tail feathers,
while the larger and younger one has dark
centers and white edges to its tail feathers.
A week or two ago both a young and an old Snow
Goose were seen patting the ground with both
feet to soften it and then digging into it with
their bills; this was when the ground was quite
damp.
