Jan. 3, 1908.
Alameda to San Francisco, bal.
Conditions:- 7:46 to 8:25 A.M.; SE wind; overcast; cool.
The tide was quite high, and in fairly close to
the mole were several gulls and ducks, among the
latter blangula clangula was recognized. Half a dozen
ducks were seen flying northward high in the air.
On the San Francisco side gulls were noted the
same as yesterday.
This evening when going down to the ferry a little
before 5 o'clock, a few were seen flying westward over
the city. An hour or so earlier they were reported as
common. At about 5:06 one gull was seen on the
piles at the Ferry Depot; it was then about dark about
dusk. On the way across an occasional gull
flew by the vessel, all heading westward.
This morning no gulls were seen while passing
through town.

Alameda to San Francisco, bal.
Conditions:- 7:40 to 8:25 A.M.; light wind; clear; cool.
The usual birds were the same as noted along the
mole and on the bay. When going down the mole I
saw two flocks of about eight scoters each, flying
northwest. One flock was of Oedemia deglandi, the
other of Oedemia perspicillata.
