This morning I saw a Larus philadelphia
near Goat Island. There were lots of Larus
glaucescens about; many following the steamers.
Three were seen riding on the forward part of
the lower deck of the "Piedmont," while two
others were taking their ease on the after
flag poles.
December 10, 1907.
[illegible] to San Francisco, Cal.
Conditions: - Southwest wind; rain.
There were a large number of gulls going
westward over the city this evening about
5:10.
December 15, 1907.
Alameda to and from San Francisco, Cal.
Conditions: - Cold; rainy in forenoon; overcast;
southerly wind. Went to the city on the 9:40 A.M.
train. Returned on the 2:10 P.M. steamer.
When I returned I saw along the mole a
few distant ducks, also several hunters. On the
land exposed by the retreating tide there were a
couple of hundred gulls, pretty well spread
out. A small to compact flock of a dozen-
or a score of sandpipers were seen on the
sand among them.
Larus philadelphia. Three or four on the Alameda
side of the bay, one on the water.
Larus californicus. Four or five adults. One or
two young ones. One adult on pile.
