wheneast of Goat Island, about twenty cormo-
rants crossed our bows very close, going southward
in their usual navy style, keeping quite close
to the water.
For the past two or three mornings I have
noticed two or three cormorants sitting on a hor-
zontal stick placed on two vertical ones,
apparently the remains of a blind, situated
southward of the mole.

Alameda to and from San Francisco, cal.
Conditions :- Warm; quite clear; no wind.
Larus californicus, in adult and immature plumage,
was very common on the bay, a large flock being
seen near the "Maryland." About three o'clock when
coming down Market Street, I saw a number of
gulls circling high in the air above Davis Street.
Along the mole and seawall several small
grebes and one or two large grebes or cormorants
were seen at high tide.
