July 19, 1907. (Overcast; NW wind; moderate temper.)
I'm crossing the bay from San Francisco
to Alameda, Cal. this evening on the upper deck
of the ferry boat; three or four Larus occidentalis and Larus heermanni were seen. All
were adults.
July 21, 1907.
Alameda, cal.
Conditions: Early morning; overcast; now wind; moderate
temperature.
While rowing in the strait between Bay Farm
Island and Alameda several Numenius hudsonicus
were observed flying singly and in couples, while
a number were also noted on the mud exposed
by the retreating tide. Three or four Ardea
herodias were seen, one flying quite close to
boat and alighting on the Bay shore and not into
marsh. A small flock of about a dozen sandpipers were
seen flying over the water.
