Arx galericulata. June 27, 1909. The drake now looks very dilapidated, and has moulted most of the ornamental feathers from his head. The rectrices and primaries of both male and female look very worn. June 29, 1909. The drake has moulted all of the ornamental feathers on his head and neck except a few around the base of the bill and behind the eye. He has not lost all of his fawn-colored flank feathers, nor the wine- colored feathers of his breast yet. July 4, 1909. The new gray feathers with the white eye ring and stripe behind eye are appearing on the drake Mandarin. A patch of the old red feathers appear remain over each side, however. The new flank feathers are beginning to appear, although the old ones have not all been shed. The black and white shoulder stripes are disappearing, and in place of the red breast, the spotted feathers like those of the female are be- ginning to appear. The female shows no closs of feathers so far.
