Aex galericulata Cutting of dron in Water. November 5, 1908. While the birds, Billy and Lily, were moulting they continually put rusty nails in the water. Every morning when I emptied the pan I would find two or three in it, and would throw them out, only to find them replaced the next time. Now that the birds have completed their moult I no longer find nails in the water, although there are plenty lying about. June 19, 1909. This evening the drake had lost a number of white feathers from each side of his head just behind the eyes. He is a very disrep- table looking bird now. June 20, 1909. A wing fan from the drake was lost since I shot him last night. June 20, 1909. The Mandarin Drakes in Golden Gate Park are in various stages of moult, none, however, any further along than mine.
