These birds don't make much of any noise, although this evening I heard several call together as they all dashed down to pick up some morsel. There are still quite a few ducks along the mole, mostly Oidemia perspicillata. Saw one Oidemia deglandi to-day. Aythya valisneria and scaup ducks are present in considerable numbers. These ducks often remain quite close to the track while the train passes, often if feeding, not even lifting their heads out of the water. Last evening a Phalacrocorax passed by the ferry clip going down the bay. Mar. 17, 1906. Saw Leandro Bay, Alameda/bo., bal. Conditions: - Overcast; strong SE wind; cool; low tide.
