Mar. 11, 1907. Alameda to and from San Francisco, cal. Conditions: - Wind variable; rainy; cold. In the morning quite a few Ducks were observed along the mole and a few along the seawall near Fifth St. Larus glauciscens is still the most abundant gull; the most of them being young birds. I note them riding on the hurricane decks of the ferry steamers. A good many on the pilings at both termini. In the evening when the tide was low there were a great many gulls on the sand near the roundhouse. There were two or three hundred ducks feeding in the shallow water; Aythya valisneria, scaup ducks, and Oidemia perspicillata. The trains often pass close to the ducks without causing them any particular alarm. They are much tamer now that the hunting season is over. March 12, 1907. Alameda to and from San Francisco, cal. Conditions: - Westerly wind; clear; moderate temperature. I saw several ducks on the water off the seawall this morning. Near the roundhouse I noted two ducks standing on the beach; Also four or five gulls. Quite a few gulls were on the water in the light. Ducks were also common: Aythya valisneria, Scaup
