Transcription
Larus glaucescens followed the boat across abundantly; Larus californicus was not numerous. Young and old of both species. Only very close about the stern. One or two gulls about the size of Larus canus were seen. A few scoters and one cormorant noted going north.
Jan. 5, 1907.
San Francisco to Alameda, cal.
Conditions: - 5:10 to 5:30 A.M. Clear; calm; cool.
A few Larus glaucescens and three or four Larus californicus were following the steamer this evening for a short distance. I saw a seater flying southward, quite high in the air.
Jan. 6, 1907.
Alameda, cal.
Conditions: - At home; cold; SE wind.
Noted a Dendroica auduboni in a pear tree next to window.
Jan. 7, 1907.
Alameda to San Francisco, cal.
Conditions: - Cold; SE wind; raining; 7:30 to 8:30 A.M.
Snow on surrounding mountains.
Noted a few ducks off Webster Street Station.
On the bay I saw a few ducks, apparently mostly scoters, flying both north and south. Larus glaucescens and Larus californicus followed the steamer across, the latter species being in predominance.
In the evening both species were noted at the ferry depot in San Francisco.
