Alameda, bal. to and from San Francisco, cal.
Conditions:-- Stormy, particularly after noon.
A few ducks are still to be seen along the mole.
In the morning I saw only Oidemia deglandi. In
the evening I also saw a small flock of Dythya merta.
Larus californicus is abundant on the bay.
Mr. Beck obtained the following birds from Ala-
meda to day:
Macrochamphus griseus; Eremete occidentalis; Squat-
arola squatarola, one in winter plumage; Larus philadelphia.
Yesterday afternoon while down at the beach in
the afternoon when the wind was blowing quite
hard from the west and the tide was fairly high
I noted the following:-- Larus philadelphia, common,
come with mottled heads; Larus californicus,
one or two; sandpipers, common; Nycticorax nyc-
ticorax, one. When returning I noticed a flock
of curlew flying over the town, uttering loud calls
at the same time.
