Birds:- Merganser servator. One fine adult male. Aythya marila. One fine adult male. Nycticorax nycticorax. One fine adult male, Eriornithura jamaicensis. Two in fairly high plumage. Squatarola aquatacola. Four in high plumage. Symphemia semipalmata. One in quite high plumage. Macrodromphus scolopaceus. One in high plumage. APR -5 1905 Alameda, Cal., stand from San Francisco, Cal. Conditions:- Warm; clear; light winds. Larus californicus follow the steamers abundantly. A few Larus glaucuseens are seen. Nearly all the Larus californicus are snowy-headed adults. Along the mole ducks are fairly common, mostly seoters and Aythya marila. Yesterday morning they were abundant. This morning their number had decreased greatly. This evening there were only a few. A few dilapidated Eideria deglandi still hang around down near the ship. Gulls are very abundant. On the sand at low tide both morning and evening. This morning saw several Larus philadelphia and quite a few sandpipers near the roundhouse. This evening saw in addition to the very large flocks of Larus californicus on the sand a few shore birds, probably Limosa fedoa. APR -6 1905 Alameda Bay, Alameda Co., Cal.
