Alameda, bal., outside Bay Storm Island bridge.
10:00 A. M. to 1:00 P.M.
Conditions:- Moderate temperature; raining; high southerly wind.
Loons were abundant; two or three grebes were seen; gulls
were not common; a few terns were seen — Sterna forsteri (?);
Phalacrocorax, hundreds; Aythya valisneria, very abundant;
Aythya marila, common; Aythya affinis, a few; Blangula clam-
gula, a few; Bharitonetta albeola, a few; Oidemia deglandi,
a few; Oidemia perepicillata, a few; Eismatura jamaicensis,
a few. The ducks, bone, and cormorants were together in big
flocks.

7:00 A. M. to 8:00 A. M. and 5:15 P.M. to 5:40 P.M.
Conditions:- Slightly overcast; west wind; warm.
Ducks were abundant along the mole this morning. The gulls fol-
lowing the steamer were mostly Larus californicus, Larus glau-
cescens being in the minority. Three or four Larus occidentalis and
one or two Larus canus or Larus brachyrynchus were seen.
In the evening very few birds were seen following the steamers.
More Larus californicus than Larus glaucescens were seen. Three or
four Larus occidentalis were observed. When near the mole four cor-
morants passed us going south. On the sand near the mole were a-
bout one hundred gulls. Ducks were common in the water along
the mole and seawall. One grebe was seen.
