7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. and 5:15 P.M. to 5:40 P.M.
Conditions: - cool; S.W. wind; somewhat overcast.
Along the seawall and mole there were quite a few ducks—
two or three hundred. Those close to the mole appeared to be
mostly Clangula clangula; they were in one compact flock.
On the San Francisco side I saw a few Larus glaucescens
and one Larus argentatus as the boat entered the slip.
Near the ferry slip in the evening Larus glaucescens was common;
one young Larus argentatus on a pile; Larus canus or Larus brachyrhynchus common. On the trip across I saw a few Larus
grauescens and Larus californicus. The former were flying about
the boat, the latter were over the water. Off Goat Island I saw a
bird on the water apparently a rooster; it dived as the steamer
approached. A few ducks passed, some south and some north.
There were a few ducks along the mole; off the seawall was a
flock of about one hundred and fifty.
