rila). Along the marsh I noticed a flock of birds in
flight, evidently larke (Sturnolla magna). I have
noticed these birds frequently during the past six
days. Along the mole there were a few grelies. On the
bay Larus californicus is abundant. They follow the
steamers in great numbers. Every plumage is to be
found, except the birds with pure white heads.
Birds with striped heads, being light under parts
and blue mantles being most abundant.
In the evening I saw only a few gulls; it was
about sundown.
On the morning of NOV 21 1904, as the train passed
along the mole I saw a flock of 12 to 15 cormorats
pass high above in V formation. I also noted
a few alightning on the water quite a ways off
shore.
