on the shallow water north of Oakland Creek. Just as we
left the mole we almost ran down a young Vria troile.
The bird would not dive; it acted as though it were in a
very weak condition.
Larus californicus was abundant, and Larus delaware-
sis common. Many followed the steamer across. When we
were about a half mile southeast of Goat Island a flock
of eight ducks passed high overhead to the south.
In a bunch of gulls on the water off the city I saw
one adult Larus hermanni. I noticed a flock of about
101 gulls on the roof of Pier No. 5.
San Francisco to Alameda, Cal.
Conditions: - 5:15 to 6:15 P.M. Overcast; moderate tem-
perature; west wind.
Gulls were abundant on the trip across. Larus califor-
nicus was numerous; Larus delawarensis was common;
Six adult Larus hermanni.
At home I saw one Nycticorax nycticorax passing over
just at dusk.

San Leandro Bay, Alameda Co., Cal.
Conditions: - 6:30 to 11:00 A.M. Moderate temperature;
north wind; drizzling.
In Melrose slough I saw the following:-
Gulls, 2; Larus delawarensis; Sterna forsteri; about
a dozen at the mouth of the slough.
Symphenia semipalmata. Very common.
Squatarola squatarola. Very common.
Limosa fedoa. A few.
