A good many Larus californicus along the mole.
As I rode inside the steamer, I did not see much.
Larus californicus and Larus delawarensis were both
seen.
San Francisco to Alameda, Cal.
Conditions: - 5:15 to 6:00 P.M. Cool; overcast; west wind.
Right off the waterfront I saw a Larus heermanni. Larus
californicus was abundant and Larus delawarensis
common on the trip across. South of Goat Island I
saw a bird which appeared to be a Stercorarius. Near
7th St. Station I saw a few Euphagus cyanoccephalus.
Sep. 22, 1904.
San Leandro Bay, Alameda Co., Cal.
Conditions: - 6:30 to 9:00 A.M. Moderate temperature;
strong S wind all day; black storm clouds with
occasional downpours of rain. The bay was quite
rough; the tide coming in.
Along the Alameda shore I saw:-
Numenius hudsonicus. One.
Squatarola squatarola. A few.
Limosa fedoa.
Symphonia sempalmata.
While I was in Melrose slough two flocks of ducks, about
fifteen each passed going southeast.
Dales saw the following birds:-
Larus delawarensis. Shot a young bird, which decoyed to
a term thrown on to the mud. Another young gull was
seen. I am not certain of its identity.
