Here also a Larus occidentalis passed us. Larus delawarensis was common. Off the stern of one of the warships there were a great many gulls; and one Uria troile. The gulls were Larus californicus, abundant; Larus delawarensis, common; Larus heermanni, three. Off Goat Island I saw three terns fishing. Just before the steamer reached the slip, five ducks passed high up in the air headed north. San Francisco to Alameda, Cal. Conditions: - 5:15 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Clear; west wind; warm. I saw one Larus heermanni, a few Larus delawarensis, and a good many Larus californicus. Near 5th Street I saw a flock of about fifty Euphagus cyanocephalus. They came from the direction of the bay. Quite often I have observed flocks coming from the same direction and at the same time of day. Sep. 20, 1904. Alameda to San Francisco, Cal. Conditions: 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Overcast; moderate tem- perature; west wind. At home Passer domesticus was common; a few Eupha- gus cyanocephalus passed. Along the mole I saw a good many Larus californicus. On the bay Larus californicus was common; a few Larus delawarensis were seen; and three Larus heermanni. I came home about 7:00 P.M. Ostriches were seen. Sep. 21, 1904. Alameda to San Francisco, Cal.
