Alameda to San Francisco, cal.
Conditions:- 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Cool; overcast;
neat wind.
Along the R.R. route through town I saw a good
many Passer domesticus.
On the exposed sand to the south of the mole I saw
a great many gulls, - some Larus californicus. On
the water, near the mole two birds dived as the train
passed. I think they were either Aethomorphus oc-
cidentalis or Gavia pacifica.
On the bay a good many gulls followed the ferry
boat across, among these were some Larus califor-
nicus, the others I do not know. I saw a few Larus
heermanni and no Larus occidentalis.
Three Phalacrocorax passed us off Goat Island,
they were going E.
