58. Aug. 19, 1904. Saw Leandro Bay, Alameda Co., Cal. Conditions:- 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 A.M. Warm; rather overcast; light east wind in early morning, then light west wind. Drove up the large slough north of San Leandro slough. Here and in the adjacent marsh I saw and shot the following birds:- Symphemia semipalmata. Common. Macrorhamphus scolopaceus. A few. Totanus melanoleucus. Three Ereunetes occidentalis. Common. [illegible]. Common. Squatarola squatarola. Common. Shrindo erythrogaster. A few. Melospiza cinerea. Common. Gulls. A few high in the air. In Melrose slough I saw the following:- Ereunetes occidentalis. Common. Actodromas minutilla. A few. Aegialitis semipalmata. Common. Pelidna alfina. One. Snipe. A few. Squatarola squatarola. Common. Symphemia semipalmata. Nycticorax nycticorax. A few. Ardea herodias. 2 or 3. I noted a few Symphemia semipalmata bathing in the shallow water after the manner of pigeons. Dales saw Aeg- ialitis semipalmata bathing. It acts about the same as Passer domesticus does when bathing.
