48. Goat Island headed seaward. Southeast of the island I saw three on the water. Along the mole near the roundhouse, there were two or three large shore birds and hundreds of gulls. This morning at about 6:30, (weather conditions the same as above named), I went to the beach at the foot of our street. There was a small flock of Squatarola squatarola about fifty yards out from the pontoon to which we tie our boats. This evening about 7:30 I noted several Nycticorax nycticorax passing over. Aug. 11, 1904. Alameda to San Francisco, Cal. Conditions : - 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Clear; warm; west wind. I saw in my backyard this morning the following birds: Arpodacus mexicanus. A few. Passer domesticus. A few. Jamelodia melanocephala. Two. On my way to the train I saw one Thrindo erythrogaster flying about. Along the mole I saw two large shore birds, five Ardea herodias, and a great many gulls, among which I distinguished Larus occidentalis. To the north of Oakland Creek I saw a few gulls. On the bay a few Larus occidentalis and Larus heermanni were seen. There were a few gulls on the water off Goat Island. San Francisco to Alameda, Cal.
