42. Alameda to San Francisco, bal. Aug. 1, 1904. Conditions:- 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Overcast; moderate temper- dure; good west wind. Saw a good many Passer domesticus, a few barpodacus mexicanus, and one hummingbird in the backyard before I left the train. At the roundhouse I saw a few large shore birds and a good many gulls. Along the mole there were a few Ardea herodias and a few gulls. On the bay I saw a few Larus occidentalis and Larus californi- cus. San Francisco & Alameda, bal. Conditions:- 5:15 P.M. to 5:35 P.M. Clear, warm; good west wind. Saw a few Larus occidentalis and Larus heermanni on the trip across. Off Goat Island there were a few Uria troile. Most of them were on the water. Aug. 2, 1904. Alameda to San Francisco, bal. Conditions:- 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Overcast; moderate tem- perature; west wind. Saw the following in my own yard :- Passer domesticus. A few. barpodacus mexicanus. A few. Hummingbirds. Two. In the vicinity of the roundhouse I saw a few curlew, about four sandpipers, a few Ardea herodias, and about a hundred gulls, many of which were Larus occidentalis.
