long the mole there were hundreds of gulls, — I distinguished Larus
occidentalis — and a few Ardea herodias. To the north of Oak-
land creek there was a flock of gulls which amounted to about
fifty individuals.
On the bay I saw Larus occidentalis, Larus californicus, and
Larus heermanni. A few of the first two species followed the
ferry boat across.
San Francisco to Alameda, Cal.
Conditions: 5:15 P.M. to 6:15 P.M.
On the bay I saw about 40 Larus occidentalis and Larus calif-
ornicus. Off Goat Island there were a few Uria troile.
At home I saw one hummingbird, which was sucking honey
from Lavatera assurgentiflora. I saw one Pipilo fuscus on
a fence; a few barpodacus mexicanus were eating pears;
and Passer domesticus was seen all over.

Conditions: — clear; strongest wind in middle and latter
part of the day; warm.
I saw the following birds at home during the day:—
Passer domesticus. Common.
Aphelocoma californica. One in a pear tree.
barpodacus mexicanus. A few in pear tree.
Zamelodia melanocephala. One in fig tree.
Shrindserythrogaster. A few flew about over head towards
evening. I saw one flying over the bay. (Saw Leandro Bay.)
Limosa fedoa. Two flew over the street about 4:30 P.M.
Nycticorax nycticorax. A few flew by over head towards evening.
