I saw a few barpodacus mexicanus in the yard; also a good many Passer domesticus. Along the seawall there were a few gulls. I saw a flock of birds flying swiftly westward, probably curlew. Along the mole there were a great many gulls, some of which I distinguished as Larus occidentalis. On the bay a few gulls followed the steamer across. They were Larus californicus and Larus occidentalis. Larus hermanni kept at a distance. San Francisco to Alameda, bal. Conditions: 5:15 P.M. to 6:15 P.M. Overcast; cool; west wind blowing. On the trip over I saw only a few gulls owing to my unfavorable position. They were either Western or California. Along the seawall north of Oakland Creek there were great numbers of gulls. At the roundhouse also I saw a flock of 100 or 150. Here also I saw a few sand- pipers. At home I saw some Passer domesticus and three or four Hirundo erythrogaster, July 27, 1906. Alameda to San Francisco, bal. Conditions: - 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Warm; light west wind; overcast in eastern part of Alameda; clear on bay.
