sides of the road. I shot eight. Hirundo erythrogaster
and Petrochelidon lumbrions were common. They were
seen skimming along over the sloughs particularly
near the rubbish piles.

Alameda, bal. to San Francisco, bal.
7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M.
Conditions:- cloudy; warm; light west wind.
I saw two Aphelocoma californica in the yard just before
left for the train. Basser domesticus was very abundant along the
route. A few Euphagus cyanocephalus were busy along through the
vegetable gardens. Along the mole there a great many gulls.
Those that were near enough to identify were all Larus occi-
dentalis. Ardea herodias could be seen at the water's edge. On
the bay I saw a few Larus occidentalis. It seems strange that
the murres (Uria troile) have disappeared so suddenly.

Conditions:- clear; strong west wind; moderate temperature.
Larus occidentalis and Larus heermanni were common on the
bay. We ran into a large bunch of both species in a lot of
drift, principally pieces of banana palms, off Goat Island.
On the marsh near the round house I saw a large flock of
shore birds, probably curlew.
