July 22
A family of quail (8? small 49?), Co. road, spp. Winters
R.B. Thrush Till Calls - very seldom .
No songs. Warbling Vireo, W.W. Oven singing.
W. Flycatcher family. Pair of Brown Towhees.
July 23. A Flicker called - perched in top of redwood
at Joy Camp. A family of Steller Jays,
very noisy, spent some time near Cottage .
Calif. Jay came to table. W. Vireo & Br. Towhee singing
Walked down lot to the dam. Hutton Vireo, Pil W.,
W. Flycatcher (jam.), Chickadees, Juncos (pair acted
as if they had a nest near river toward dam)
Many large droppings suggested Heron or Cirl
Fench. From Cottage porch 3:30 p.m I saw a
Sh.Sh. (or Cooper) Hawk flying for east toward
Ben Lomond Mt. Adult Sp. Towhees came for food -
No young seen. Warner. A family of Creepers in big redwoods
July 24. The female Sp. Towhee takes food away (to nest).
A male in brushes near table gives a very
soft trill when she is on the Table -
In the late afternoon or covey of quail
were just over the fence in Camp. Joy - two
males on guard on the fence. (More words to
protect the Victory Garden from quail as well
as rabbits and gophers.) Warner. Clear Breeze.
July 25. As I came around the corner of the Cottage,
I surprised two ad. Br. Towhees on the Table -
The first time I have detected the female there.
Pil Warbler seen and heard calling. (No W.W. Oven
awa July 22)
July 26. The "swee-eet" call of W. Flycatchers heard on
all sides - (49, giving adult calls?) AmaH (J.I.A.)
July 27. No W. Flycatchers heard. About 3 p.m. a
