1941 Berkeley Feb. 9. Heavy rain, all day and all last night. A Chord burst in Santa Cruz. Birds come for food. Both Jays, North Corkees, Song Sparrows, Fox Sparrows Squid, Thrasher, Titmouse, Virgin Wren singing. Feb. 12. I noticed a Wren at taking soft bread from the table. On the Monterey Pines at the mouths of the Canyon, a large flock of Siskiyou was heard and seen. Lunniets were taking colourwater berries at the Willows. No rain, no sun. Feb. 16. At Alvarado Pools - coots, Pintails, Shovellers, Bb. Clover, Sandpipers, Yellowlegs (2), Groce[illegible] Feb. 17-21. Rain most of the time. Cedar Wren on Pied. Robin finished berries at Willows. Feb. 22. Drift to Boulder Creek for the day - Cloudy, Alvarado Pools - Many coots, pintails, A few Shovellers, many Bb. Clover, Killdeer (noisy) Sandpipers (Red.b.+), Dovetchers, 1 Yellowlegs. Feb. 23 Through Mar. 4. Continuous rain. Mar. 5. Clear. Crisp in morning, warm middle of day. I heard my first House Wren singing near the house. (Other birds singing: Virgin Wren, Thrasher, Titmouse, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow. On Arlington Ave. a large flock of Cedar Warblers were perched in the tops of bare Trees in the area. Still there two hours later.. March 6. Warm, sunny. Ruby-crowned Kinglets Singing Also Purple Finch and birds listed yesterday. Warm. March 7. The Lutescent Warbler was singing outside my window early. Others as yesterday. Clear, warm. No definite pairs of Bush-Tits yet-
