1938 shore had no effect. Two Hedsonian Curlew were seen and three or four Buddy Terns, the first I have seen this fall. Eared and Western Grebes were common. No Loons. The only ducks seen were three female White-winged Scoters, four Pintails and about the same number of male Buddy Ducks. When we walked along the edge of the estuary bluff the airport we could see great numbers of shore birds on its opposite side - Godwits, Willets, B.b. Plow and Sandpipers. A perfect day for shore birds. Clear, no wind, light N.W. Not only Sandlilings and Dunlin hop on one leg when they wake up - B.b. Plow, Willets and Godwits do it too. Nov. 3. Varied Thrushes in woods west of house. Nov. 4. Varied Thrushes in woods east of house. Nov. 5. Brilliantly clear with north wind. Proved Mrs. Jumjus's ranch at Alta. Mountains very clear. Could see the mountains at south end of Lake Tahoe from Dixon to W. Wimmer. They were white with snow. At Alta very few birds. Robins were eating seeds of Dogwood. Heard a Woodpecker (Harris?), Chelladees ruby-crowned Kinglet. Jumcos have been abr. Cold at night with frost. Nov. 6. We drove on to Cisco.
