Sept. 7. The Lady Birds took their first Autumn Trip along the new Ocean Shore Road, & Montara and Moss Landing and Half Moon Bay. Then we crossed the Range to San Mateo and that S.M. Bridge; where we watched Shore birds; then to the Oakland Airport. Clear, warm. Windy at S.M. Bridge; otherwise calm. Birds seen along the Ocean shore: Loon (sp.?), Western Grebe, Brown Pelicans (flock of 20 at Pedro Pt.), Cormorants at (sp?); Bluebill Duck (pool at Sharp's Park, golf course), Puddies, one followed by three young; others near by at the same pool: Pintail Sponning Coots (as and on at Sharp's) against the cliffs at Pedro Pt. & Black Turnstones, one Tattler (Moss Beach). N. Phalaropes, a few on pool at Sharp's Park, Heermann and Western Gulls (Heermann with grey heads). Black Phoebe, Linnets, Willow Goldfinches, Savannah Sparrows at Sharp's Park Pool. One gull on the pool all white head- abnormal? Normal Grebe. Birds at San Mateo Bridge: A few ducks (Pintails); B.b. Plover, 30±, one full pl.; Snowy Plover 6±; Longbilled Curlew, one only. It remained on the mud flats when all the Willets & Godwits flew. Willets 200±; Least Sandpipers, a few. Western Sandpipers at:; No red backs; Godwits 300±; Avocets 15±; Northern Phalaropes 100±; a few Bonaparte Gulls; Calif. and probably Ringbilled Gulls - not in moult flocks as at Dunn. earlier. Caspian Terns (4), Forster Terns (with white or lfts of head) 10±.
