N. Chalapopes, an increasing number of Least Sandpipers and Willets and one group of
9 Dowitchers. 1000+ Mourning Gulls were still
resting in the Salt pools, adults seen were Calif.
Terns in the distance were probably Forsters.
A few brown shore birds among the willets
5 thirds were H. Curls but they were too
far away to make sure. Willets numbered into
hundreds.
At 37 Mosswood I heard young gulls calling across
the road.
July 29-Aug 1. Boulder Creek. Hot weather -
Heard a Water Ouzel below the House. Visited
W. Cliff Drive during afternoon of July 30. Found
7 Tattlers and 3 Turnstones. At several places
where there was a little sandy beach there
were groups of Heermann's Gulls, partly white
heads and very red bills, following the receding
tide. No Sanderlings.
Aug 2-4. Quite hot for Berkeley - no fog. 80°+
Aug 5. Chilly fog all day.
Aug 6. Made a hurried trip to Boulder Saturday. Cool.
Stopped at Dumbarton Bridge and Mt. V. Marsh.
At the bridge Willets has become quite numerous.
Also Phalaropes and no red shovels in plumage,
as well as Least.
A few Western Sandpipers. Three adult Avocets
seen in same place as on July 13. Could not see young.
At the marsh tide was just drawing out. I made an
exact count of the Curlew that were near enough
to the highway so I could get the markings definitely.
Eight were Hudsonian and 6 Long-billed. More
farther out. Saw a number of Black-bellied Plover
