April 19. Took a class to Saranap and Alamo.
Overcast but warm. Light reflected from
clouds made visibility very poor.
List Redtails and Sapanow Hardies, Alamo (2yg),
and Allen (possibly Rufous) Hummers, Calif.
Woodpeckers, Nuttall Woodpeckers (giving a call
different from the rattle - sharp peels, peels,
peels, peels - lower pitched and slower than
Willow), Willow Woodpecker, Cali Jay,
Western Flycatcher, Ashthroated Flycatcher (heard),
Tatouwse (ab.), Vagons Kren, House Wren, Robin,
W. Bluebird, Warbling Vireo (gathering shredded bark
for nest); Yellow Warbler (first seen or heard this
season - at Saranap Station and Alamo Creek
but none at Naberlands); Sutescent Warbler
(No Pileated Warblers); Cliff Swallows - very busy
gathering mud for nests; (Rivule at, much
rivalry; Redwings (at Saranap Sta.); Brewer
Blackbirds - at Naberlands there were two
close flocks of over fifty each which
circled near and through the trees where
they usually nest. One pair came through
above. Will one of the two groups take the
nesting area? Are they the birds that
were raised at this spot? Or is one
group native here, the other not? (no Buffle F.
Meadowlarks, Grouse (ab.), Linnets A
(too ab.), Green backed Goldfinches in flocks
but our pair was building in a small tree at
Naberlands', Spotted Towhees (ab.), Brown Towhees,
