We lunchcd near the Radio Station where we found
more Horned Larks, Bryant Sparrows, Linnets,
Also Meadowlarks and Killdeer - evidently nesting
(Bryant Sparrow was seen carrying nesting
material. Ridgwing Blackbirds were seen and
a few Farallone Cormorants
On the way home we stopped at Fernside Blvd.
just as the tide turned and found the shore
lined with the following species: 1 Bt. Plover (ai
grey plumage), 50+ Semipalmated Plover, [illegible]
6 Black Turnstones, several Hudsonian Curlew),
a few Willets, the three kinds of Sandpipers and
hundreds of Dowitchers, three Godwits. Also
hundreds of Bon. Gulls and many Forster's Terns
Dowitchers on the water were W.W. and Surf Scoters
and Bluebills. Also some Coots. Cloudy with
strong west wind. (We looked for Knots but did
not find them)
April 24. The Laddie Birds went to Alum Rock Park,
On the way we stopped at the Alvarado
Lobelia Pond where we saw two Greater
Yellowlegs and several Red-backed and Western
Sandpipers. The full list for the day was:
Blue Heron, Calaveras Reservoir; Ringard - 6 in one
groups "" ; Red-tailed Hawk, Alum Rock
Sparrow Hawk, Zuniil - flushed one from a nest in
the grass next to the roadway in Alum Rock Park.
The nest contained six eggs (Gr. Yellowlegs,
Red & West. Sandpipers, at Alvarado), Forsythia Tern, at
Calaveras Res., Mourning Dove, Anna Humming.
