Apr. 2 - Berkeley - Heard a House Wren singing near dairy- April 2. Cloudy on the way to Boulder Creek but sunny and warm there. I heard the Cassin Vireo singing and giving the call note used by the young birds. In the late after- noon we went to Santa Cruz and drove along the West Cliff Drive. Birds seen were: Brown Pelicans, many; Pinnacles Cormorants, many; Gulls (no Heermanns); Western Grebe; Surf Scoters. (No Cliff Swallows Swimming or shore birds or Black Turnstones.) Very clear starlight later. April 3, High fog early; Sun came out at 7:15. Warbling and Cassin Vireo, Luscinia and Pale-bellied Warbler and Western Flycatcher singing. Heard a Hummingbird (not Anna) Juncos (a pair) kept near the Toyon part of the drive. Beautiful warm morning. On way home we ran into high fog near the summit and it was cloudy the rest of the way home. Blossom Festival at Sara Logan. At noon we noticed Three Turkey Buzzards - Two apparently courting when a third appeared; After some time one started toward Ben Lomond Mt. with only one following it. Apr. 4. Campus. Bany. Cedar Waxwings 75t; Sisters 50t; Robins building on volutes of columns of L. Science Bldg., alighted on three different columns - Two hum- mimg birds were much concerned over two gaps. We saw the jay go into an oak tree and carry off what looked like a tiny bird; supposedly a baby hummingbird. Two hummingbirds kept buzzing about. Were they
