April 9 (contin.) Ruby-crowned Kinglet (several), Junco.
In the distance I heard songs of Townsend
(probably) Warblers-
Nests: Bushtit - in Eucalyptus; Titmouse in
dead alder; Black Phoebe - under stone
Conduct:
Practically all species singing or giving spring
calls. Both Flicker and W. Woodpecker drumming
At 37 Morwood Road at 11:45 a.m. - a great flock
of siskins in the oaks. Also Aud. Warblers.
Robins picking up worms-
April 10. Beautiful day- Birds feeding on oak worms:
Audubon Warblers, G.c Sparrows, Purple Finches
Robins , House Wren - pair at the box
near dining room window. Lutescent
Warbler - a pair near by. Guard call
of quail heard - first time-
In the afternoon 2:30-2:45 - a
Purple Finch remained in one branch
of an oak - 16 ft. from where I sat
singing. It sang full voice for more than
five minutes; they fed on oak worms;
this sang in full voice several times. Still
in same twig when I left.
April 11. Beautiful warm day. Birds abundant:
Hermit Thrush singing Whiter Song. Robins very
Tame - picking up worms on brick Terrace. Purple
Finches, Aud. Warblers, G.c Sparrows, rob. singing.
