Mar. 12. Cold north wind. Codornices Park (Faculty Yp.)
No black seen on chins of Goldfinches. Perhaps those seen last week had been feeding
on something that stained the feathers.
Bush-tits nest being lined with fuzzy from
the willows. Anna Hummingbird hovering.
Lutescent Warblers singing (Buly s.v. heard)
And Warblers increasing. Nuttall Warblers
singing near the Rose Gardens. One group of
13 Gambel (?) Sparrows on the lawn. Many
4th Goldfinches. They perched in a large
bare tree, all twittering. A few Siskins
with them. Then they flew to the grass plot
and fed on dandelion seeds.
Mar. 14-16. A pair of Lutescent Warblers are
located near the East Pool. Much
chipping and frequent songs.
Mar. 15. Showers.
Mar. 17. Boulder Creek. Beautiful spring day,
I heard a Warbling Vireo sing several
times. Pugit Dd. Sparrows were singing
in the town of Boulder Creek and at
several places in the Santa Clara Valley.
Very few have been heard during mid winter.
Very few seen.
Mar. 19. Codornices Park. Lutescent Warblers spaced
for nesting. Bush-tits nest - birds still carrying
in lining materials. Cedar Waxwings 20-30
Came into top of Eucalyptus below the Rose Garden.
Purple Finch and Junco singing. Also Robin,
Song Sparrow, Vigor Vireo(?), Linnete, Siskins,
