Feb. 26. 4 1/2 in. rain. Feb. 28. A Terrific down pour about 4 a.m. with high wind. Certain slots on Euclid Ave. flood. caused by bursting of culvert. 3.5 in. rain. Feb. 28. Snowshoe during morning. The Lady Birds walked through the lower campus. Birds were not abundant. Only flocks seen: Civic Sisters 8-10, near M.V.Z.; juncos near Astronomy Bldg., one group of Nuttall (or Pug.) White-crowned Sparrow south of Life Science Bldg. Purple Finch singing; Three Anna Hummingbirds seen; A pair of Bush-Tits prospecting for nest site; Three Pickers seen, 6-8 Brown Towhees; 2 G.C. Sparrows, 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglets - one in full song; Three Song Sparrows, one Spotted Towhee. Much mud and water on paths and roads - Streams full and muddy. Warm. Woolsey Creek burst through its culvert. Feb. 29. Clean. N.W. wind. Cooler. I heard the chip of a Lutescent Warbler - no song. Did not see the bird. Mar. 1. Lutescent Warbler song heard. Mar. 2. A Cooper Hawk was calling just outside my window about 7 a.m. We drove to Boulder Creek which has been isolated since Feb. 21 by the floods - 19 in. during the week, 11 inches in one day- Many major slide (across both lanes). Went by Los Gatos, returned via Saratoga Counted 24 major slides between B.C. & Jar.
