Nov.24,1939. I heard a Kniqfisher below the house.
Nor.25,1939. Rain - first since Sept.13.
Miss Gladling came back from Echo Lake.
Flickers,
Snooping there. She saw Chickadees, Clark's
Crow,1 flock of Townsend Solitaires (among
juniper trees). Gulls came to Stadium
(immediately after rain)
Nov.28,1939. The "Allen Hummers" walked up
Strawberry Canyon from the Stadium,
and returned by the road (trail) on the
south side (slady). Winter birds are
not so abundant as earlier in the month:
Strangely enough we saw and heard no
quail - they must all be in my garden.
Redtail 1 soaring; Flicker, several;
Black Phoebe. (1); Coast Jay several, Cali,
Jay alb., Titmouse 4 heard; Bushtit-
two large flocks; Wren-tit (singing) per-
haps in six places; Vireo Vireo- two heard;
B.c. Warbler, 6-8, one song; Audubon Warbler,
2 flocks; Townsend Warbler several in
one place where birds were apparently
eating cut worms in the oats; Hermit Thrush
only one heard - near the Stadium. Fox
Sparrow - one seen, others heard; Junco
two or three groups, feeding on cut worms;
Begat & Sparrows- eating bayon berries near
Stadium, singing
B.c Sparrows - in most of the aggregations, feeding
in pairs. Brown & Spotted Farkes, Song Sparrow (4).
