Tide. Many birds but scattered and distant.
Bb. Plover and Willets ab. as heretofore,
Lt. Curlew about 50 near enough for definite
Cation; Hudsonian only 6. Godwits < (40+);
St. Yellows 1, gave call of four notes;
Dowitchers < 30+; Least Sandpipers<; West-
ern very few; Redbacks < but not ab.
Avoets 50+.
"Very rare" Indian Runner
Oct. 22. Boulder Creek. Juncos, Clarkadears, Purple
Finch (singing solo voice), Hermit Thrush,
Kingfisher, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Pygmy
Nuthatches, one Hutton's Vireo. Very narrow.
Santa Clara Valley.
Driving home a noticeable decrease
in migrating White-crowned Sparrows.
No G.C. Sparrows heard, though. They
have been singing constantly in Strand-
berry Canyon the past week.
Oct. 25. Mrs. Launces and I went to Golden Park,
hoping to find a Rock Wren she reported
as their last Saturday (Oct. 21). We did not
find it. Abundant birds there were Aud. War,
Juncos, Willow Goldfinches, Kinglets, Cally
and Coast Jays. Black Phoebes (2), Titmouses,
Anna Hummingbird were seen also. On the
Wildcat Canyon road to San Pablo Dam,
many Redtails; Meadowlarks (flock of 15),
flocks of Tringaeus, Golden-co. Sparrows.
Near the Reservoir two Bay Phoebes were
balancing on the reeds or hovering just
above the tips of the reeds. Also Shrike.
