birds seen were Flicker, Coast Jay (heard only), Quail,
Cooper Hawk, Titmouse (singing at Mann house), Wrentit,
Bunktit (a pair in the Monterey junces at mouth of Strawberry
Canyon), Robins, Hermit Thrushes, Brown and
Spotted Towhees, Crowsed Sparrows (cp.?). Cold north breeze.
Feb. 14. Lois and I went into Hamilton Gulch - No Allen
Hummingbird or Quailcatcher. Much warmer.
More birds singing.
Feb. 15. Heard Quailcatcher again. No Allen Hummer
Feb. 16. Cold east wind. Sine warmer.
Feb. 17. Wind turned warm. Spring day. At 10:30 p.m.
Treasure Island light - Sparklingly Clear.
Feb. 18. Exposition opened. Holiday. James and I drove
To Boulder Creek and back. We crossed from
Foothill Blvd. to the lower Blvd via Valle Vista
and Elvande. In the pools there we found
about a dozen Green-winged Teal - more than
I have ever seen together - Also Britails,
Shovelers, Bluebills, Puddies and a Yellow
Legs (Greater?). At Boulder Creek Kingfishers
were calling excitedly and continuously -
At Mountain View Marsh on the way home we were
too late for the best tide so most of the birds
were too far away. But there were near the
highway perhaps 100 Shovelers, 150+ Bob Plover,
180+ Willets, 38+ Long billed Curlew; I couldn't make
out any Hudsonian Curlews. Only a few Dornithes
and Red-backed Sandpipers, some Least and
quails, a sprinkling of Western but much more
