1935.
Jan 1-9 - Rain much of the time. No frosts.
Total rainfall above normals.
Jan. 10. Went to Dumbarton Bridge. (On west side
saw 1 female Golden Eye, W. Willets (20t), Clapper
Rails (2) (heard others). At east end many
Western Sandpipers (200+ in scattered groups),
Eared Grebes (150+ in two groups), White Pelicans (20+)
Cormorants (30+), St. Blue Heron 2, Sparrow Hawk
(probably one bird; perched on fence rail, flew as
we approached, alighting ahead of us each time.)
One or two solitary ducks (scoters?) under main
bridge in open bay. Clouds over mountains and
rain in spots, principally near hills.
Jan. 11. Caught a glimpse of two large birds in the
oaks west of the house. Saw one yesterday.
Jan. 12. The two large birds are Band-tailed Pigeons.
Jan. 13-17. Pigeons seen several times each day. Rain
Jan. 19. Clearing after prolonged rains. Drove to Boulder
Creek and back. Cold. Wind from N.W. Mt. Hamblen
Top range white with snow. Snow on Los Gatos
Santa Cruz Highway above Holy City on east side
of summit. Above Saratoga the roadway was
covered with snow in many shaded places
below the summit on east side. Varied Thrushes,
W. Winter Wren, Juncos (abs.), Chickadees, Hermit
Thrush, Crowned Sparrows (Gambel's?) at Boulder
creek near cottage. 3 1/4 inches rain there so far.
Rivers very high. Much overflowed land near
